Floral Park is a village in the town of Hempstead on the western border of Nassau. The village has been known by a few different names throughout history including Hinsdale, Floral, East Hinsdale, Plainfield, and Plainfield Station. When John Lewis Childs arrived to the area at the age of 17, the area was known as Hinsdale and was home to a few homes, the post office, a railroad station, and one store. The county of Nassau was established in 1899, at which time, Floral park became a part of and received its name while becoming incorporated in 1908.

Floral Park is home to two high schools, Sewanhaka High School and Floral Park Memorial High School, and three elementary schools including Floral Park-Bellerose School, John Lewis Childs School, and Our Lady of Victory Elementary School. The business section has been refurbished providing tree lined streets and new street lights. Floral Park is known as a quiet family oriented community offering a wonderful place to live. The most popular attraction in Floral Park is the Towers and Country Club offering golf, tennis, fitness center, and a pool as well as a movie theater, arcade, and restaurant.
